A federal agency might allow the Seminoles Tribe of Florida to have Las Vegas-style machines in their casinos, even if the state doesn’t allow it. The Department of Interior has proposed 28 procedure pages indicating how to administrate the slot machines. The agency said that it could have a list of regulations towards the end of November if the tribe doesn’t reach an agreement with the state.
The Seminoles asked the Department of Interior, in charge of the supervision of Indian affaires, to intervene after the tribe and the governor didn’t reach and agreement.
The tribe wants Las Vegas-style machines in order to compete with the ones to be installed in the County of Broward in two racetracks and in the Jai-Alai of Dania. The Seminoles administrate casinos in Coconut Creek, Hollywood, Immokalee, Okeechobee, Clewiston and Tampa.
The Class III machines, known as the Las Vegas-style, are more popular because they offer bigger prizes than the current Class II of the tribe. With the Class III slot machines, the player competes against the house, while with the Class II, like bingo, players compete against themselves.
