Union por Córdoba has presented a law project that prohibits the presence of minors under 21 in recreation rooms that have slot machines. The initiative excludes those people that have turned 18 and are emancipated or have their parents’ authorization.
Counselor Martín Llarvora based the decision of promoting a project with these characteristics on the fact that, because of the municipal government’s attitude, it was decided not to take the road that other municipalities have taken that decided to just prohibit gambling.
“We only have left the way of regulating, in order to preserve the health of those young people of the city”, commented the representative of the opposite party.
According to the head of the Partido Justicialista of San Francisco, the intention of this legislation “is not to go against the individual rights that everyone has, but to restrict them in order to be able to protect the minor”. With this regulation it aims also to prevent the progressive increase that the illness of compulsive gambling on minors has had.
On the other hand, in the same session and with the president of the Council, Marta de Nicolini’s double vote, the project that regulates the time for the slots rooms to remain open was approved. The article of the Code was modified and a paragraph was added that says that in the case of the ones authorized by the Province’s government, they will be able to function every day from 12 to 6 a.m.
