$5.7M slot jackpot

A Toronto man upstaged the prime minister at the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort yesterday, winning the largest slot machine prize in Canadian history. Nick Hulst, a tax accountant, won $5,781,854.41 playing one of Fallsview's Megabucks machines.

There was already a buzz at the casino as Prime Minister Paul Martin met with other Liberals at the annual general meeting of the party's Ontario wing.

The payout broke the previous record of $5.6 million won at Casino Niagara in 2002. Megabucks is a linked slot machine system with growing jackpots.
